Mercenaries 2-World in Flame

Posted by admin | Filed under: PS3

Mercenaries 2: World in Flame is a third person shooter game released by Electronic Arts. The game is an explosive open-world action game set in a massive, highly reactive, war-torn world. The game begins with a screen were you can select the character you want to play. Each character has his own attributes like Jennifer Mui outpaces both the other male characters, Mattias Nilsson regenerates health faster and Chris Jacobs can carry more ammunition. The usefulness of each of the above characteristics is felt in different parts of the game. Each of the characters has a unique dialogue setting and is worth hearing at least once.

The storyline of the game is very simple. You help Ramon Solano become the president of Venezuela but are double crossed, unpaid and wanted dead. What follows is a revenge mission across Venezuela, where no part of country is left untouched. Here you will have to work with several opposing factions across war-torn Venezuela. Each mission would involve a lot of killing and a lot of blowing up as well. Once the mission is completed you move a step closer to taking your revenge. There is no shortage of vehicles in the game either.

You can hijack a motorcycle, a tank and even a helicopter to achieve your mission. One of the most difficult parts of the game is to call in an air strike. Also there are various degrees of devastation that one can play around with like a carpet bombing or even a full scale nuclear attack. It is here we find that full graphic capability of the game is utilized. The missions at times are very repetitive and very easy, but the game is so big that you never end up getting bored. You will, at times, get so immersed in the game that you forget that you are just playing a video game.
There are many bugs in the game that ought to be removed. The game, at times, suddenly shows that you are dead even after you have enough health left.

This is clearly not expectable in a finished game. The artificial intelligence of the game is nothing to write home about. It is grossly ineffective and does not use the full capabilities of the PS3. The staring of the enemy soldiers at the wall even when you are shooting them down or the characters that you are supposed to rescue running into enemy fire rather than sit in your vehicle only add to the negate the popularity of the game. Also the predictable and repeated dialogue of the characters makes you feel that you are just playing an ordinary video game.

The game which could have been one of the best games in PS3 is marred down by glitches and careless defects. The developer Pandemic should have run more stringent test before the game was released in the market. There is no doubt that the game is extremely entertaining and there is vast environment to explore but due to the above mentioned glitches the game falls short of a near perfect experience.
