Previously on Playstation games, we have given you the know how on how to run Linux via your playstation 3 console. Today we thought we would give you the knowledge on how to run windows XP on your playstation 3 console (PS3).
Recently we have showcased the following tutorials:

Enjoy using the worlds best worst operating system!

At the start of the year, rumors started to circulate regarding the possibility of the LittleBigPlanet game which is being released this month on the Sony PS3 will be released for the Sony PSP console. The game is allready very well known as one of the biggest releases for the PlayStation 3 this month or even this year, LBP is one of those games that will appeal to a very wide demographic, and due to Sony’s ambition to increase the level of connectivity between the PS3 and PSP, perhaps such an idea isn’t impossible and we could possibly see both platforms crossing over again for some super cool Little Big Planet adventures.

Just recently Playstation Games UK has found more evidence which can support the theory. As you can see by this job listing below, SCEE is currently on the prowl for a “PSP Game Engine Lead,” who will be responsible “for the design and implementation of key game components and the development of exciting new LittleBigPlanet projects.”

You would have thought this is where the ‘LittleBigPlanet release for Sony PSP‘ rumor ends, but Media Molecule boss Mark Healy spoke about the possibility of a portable version of LBP in a recent Eurogamer.TV interviewm in the interview, Mark said- “There’s definitely scope for a PSP version, we’ve had discussions and talks, [but] nothing concrete at the moment.” Putting such a huge game on both platforms would indeed be lucrative for Sony, but we have one question: if the game takes up over 40 gigs of space on a Blu-Ray disc, how exactly is it going to fit on PSP software? Will it be a toned-down version of the PS3 game? Or are we talking about an entirely new LBP project that is separate from the PS3 title that comes out on October 21st 2008? We admit to having plenty of questions, but such a job listing has got everyone talking. LittlebigPlanet is currently in beta right now.
We think that its possibly best to create a brand new LittlebigPlanet game for the Sony PSP console allthough this would take a lot of time possibly upto another year or so, we’ll keep you updated on the latest developments of the game for both Sony PSP and Sony PS3.
With the announcement of the new PSP-3000 model and more third-party developers starting to jump on board, Sony’s handheld continues to grow. To have a title like LittleBigPlanet as part of its library would be very very big indeed and would indeed boost sales.
Disaster report 3 is one of the 11 PS3 games that will be shown in October at TGS. One of these titles was to be developed by IREM, and rumors flew that it could be Disaster Report 3. Well, they were part right. IREM has just announced Disaster Report 3 - but for the PSP, not the PS3. Again, there are no other details at this time. Expect more from TGS.

Sony announced PSP-3000, a new model of PSP which have built-in microphone and a new anti-glare screen. PSP-3000 bundle will launch in Europe on October 15 for 199 euros, there will be eight versions of the bundle, which includes different pack-in games such as FIFA 09, Harry Potter, Buzz! Master Quiz.

The guy over at Hacker.co.il has provided you guys with an amazing tutorial on how to install linux and Windows 95 using Bochs.
Yes, it’s true. I’ve managed to run Windows 95 and Linux on the PSP. I’ve done it by porting the excellent open source x86 emulator Bochs.
Windows 95 actually runs quite well but don’t expect it to be a speed demon. It takes about 10 minutes to boot but afterwards it’s pretty usable. I was able to do things like: open “My computer” and browse the virtual hard drive, complete a whole game of Minesweeper and run various other applications. Now you too can get your Minesweeper fix on the go
I’ve also tested DLX Linux which comes pre-packaged with Bochs and it works just fine. However, I couldn’t do much with it because there’s no keyboard support. If you want to do your word processing on it then wait until keyboard support is implemented (though I doubt it will be any fun using the joystick).
In windows, mouse handling is extremely difficult. I suspect it has something to do with the “boost” feature windows has. Once you get the mouse moving it will keep moving in that direction even when you’re trying to move to a different direction. The solution is to counter the movement by moving to the opposite direction. It’s sort of like trying to push the mouse the other way in order to stop it.
Future improvements
- I’ve used a simple software rescaling algorithm so the entire screen will fit into the tiny 480×272. This of course takes a lot of CPU time and slows everything down quite a bit. It is possible to rescale the screen using the built in 3D hardware acceleration and I will get on it soon.
- The analog joystick should be used for mouse support.
- Some sort of keyboard input should be implemented although you can use the windows virtual keyboard right now.
How to run
1) Create your bochs image and configuration files. I highly recommend installing the OS on a PC before moving it to the PSP (unless you want to spend the next 10 years staring at a progress bar). You can also download some readily available images from here.
2) Download and unzip the files below.
3) If you have 1.0 firmware put the EBOOT.PBP file under the GAME directory (e.g X:\PSP\GAME\BOCHS where X is the PSP drive). If you have a version 1.5 firmware you need to repackage the file using KXploit. I haven’t tested it on a v1.5 firmware so I hope it works. It won’t work on newer firmwares (v1.51, v1.52, v2.0) because it’s impossible to run homebrew applications on them at this time.
4) Create a directory named VM in the root of the memory stick (e.g X:\VM).
5) Copy the disk images and bios files anywhere on the PSP.
6) Edit the bochs configuration file so it will point to your disk images and bios files correctly. Note that on a PSP you have to use the “ms0:/” prefix as the root of your filesystem (see the example configuration in the downloads). Also set the amount of memory your VM will use. Be sure to set it to about 8MB as the PSP will crash if you try to use more (the PSP has about 32MB of RAM total).
7) Rename the bochs configuration file to “bochsrc.bxrc” and put it under the VM directory. This is the only real requirement as the path to the configuration is hardcoded. You can put the rest of the files wherever you want as long as the configuration file points to them correctly. See downloads section for sample script.
Run bochs and hope for the best.
Keys
Directional keys - Mouse movement (press repeatedly)
SQUARE - Left mouse button
CIRCLE - Right mouse button
CROSS - Middle mouse button
START - Opens the windows start menu ![]()
SELECT - Quits immediatly (though you should shutdown windows instead)
Download
Important note:
By downloading the file you agree that I am not responsible for any damage caused by this software. I use the “overclocking” feature the PSP has to make the CPU work full speed at 333mhz. Nobody is sure how it affects the PSP. Also, the virtual machine sometimes writes a lot of data to the flash memory stick which could shorten it’s life.
Bottom line, If your PSP starts bursting into flames after running this, don’t blame me.

Good news portable fans, the guys in the PSP design team have been busy. During the Games Convention press conference over in Leipzig, Germany, Sony talked about the much-rumored PSP 3000. The new portable device has the same base functionality as the current Sony PSP - Playstation portable (known as PSP slim, also known as the PSP 2000), and in fact looks pretty much the same. However, there are of course a couple new features.
The Sony PSP 3000 will include a built-in microphone for use with Skype and Go Messenger. It will also feature an “enhanced” LCD screen, with more vibrant colors and reduced glare when using it outside.
The system will launch in Europe on October 15th for €199, with the PSP slim dropping to €169 Euros. The new system will be available in a variety of packages with single game bundles. Options will include the likes of Harry Potter, Buzz! Quiz Master, Go Messenger, FIFA 09 and more.
