The evolution of the playstation

Posted by admin | Filed under: PS2, PS3, Playstation

A Playstation is a 32-bit video game console in the fifth generation. Way back in 1994, Sony Computer Entertainment was the very first company to get into Playstation series. The Playstation passion started with the hand-held gaming devices that had consoles as successors. First one of them was Net Yaroze and then started in series the yet another versions like “PS One” followed by-Pocket Station, Play station 2, Slimline PS 2, Play Station Portable (PSP), PSX, and Playstation 3.

By March 2005, the madden of a Playstation is such that the combined sales of Playstation and PS One were over 100 million consoles. In the history of Video gaming in the world, the Playstation has recorded one of the longest production runs. Sony announced the end of the Playstation production in March 2006.

The PlayStation was launched in Japan on December 3, 1994 and North America on September 9, 1995. The launch price in the American market was us$299 and Sony enjoyed a very successful launch with titles of almost every genre.
The PlayStation was also able to get interest with a series of campaigns of advertising. Many of the ads released at the time of launch were full of ambiguous content. This rendered many gamers rabidly debating their meanings.
During its production run, the PlayStation went through a number of variants, each accompanied by a change in the part number. The most notable change was the gradual reduction in the number of external connectors on the unit. This started very early on only.
Sony’s successor to the PlayStation is the backward compatible with its predecessor , he PlayStation 2, in that it can play almost every PlayStation game. This was done by embedding the PS one’s most important parts inside the PlayStation 2 design. The PlayStation 2 actually contains the original PlayStation processor, allowing games to run exactly as they do on the PlayStation unlike emulators that run on a PC. For PlayStation 2 games this processor which is called the IOP is used for input and output like memory cards, DVD drive, network, and hard drive. Like its predecessor, the PS 2 is based on hardware developed by Sony itself.

The third generation of the PlayStation was launched on November 11, 2006 in Japan, November 17, 2006 in North America which is known as the PlayStation 3 (abbreviated PS3). The PS 3 was initially backward compatible with almost all games that were originally made for PS 1, but due to the remotion of some components after the creation of the 40GB version whose capability is limited now to emulation. In PAL territories and later shipments in North America and Japan (40GB versions and after), however, the PlayStation 3 is not backward compatible in terms of hardware and so supports significantly fewer PS 2 games.

A PlayStation motherboard -MIPS R3000A-compatible 32bit with a RISC chip running at around 33.8688 MHz. The chip is made by LSI Logic Corp. with license from SGI. The chip also contains the Geometry Transformation Engine and the Data Decompression Engine.

Thus playstation is contributing in every area which you can think of be it business, ad, creativity or elsewhere.

From racing to fighting, and from killing spree to flying in space, playstation games provide with a world that only exists in the brain. Any idea that comes to a mind is the work done by the developers in making a game. There have been many successful games like Need For Speed Most Wanted (Black Edition), Counter Strike 1.6, Age of Empire, and Quake III etc. all the games are best in their own dimensions in the way they are played. There are several companies like Electronic Arts, THQ, Ubisoft, and Rockstar games etc. that are running in the quest for making the best which makes an appeal to the gamers all around the world.

Chain of Memories is a game developed by Square Enix all set to be launched in United States on 2nd December, 2008. It will be available in the US market for 30 $ and it is considered to be one of the much awaited games. Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is a sequel of Kingdom Hearts and has been directed by Tetsuya Nomura. The game features new plots and the introduction of new characters is something to look for. The new graphics and extended horizon of the Kingdom Hearts Universe gives the game a new feel and avatar.

The main character of the game Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is Sora, he wonders and tries to explore a castle in the search of his lost friends. The previous launch of the game that was in Japan was a huge hit with 104000 copies sold in just 2 days. Till date 1.5 million copies of the game have been sold worldwide.

The game features a unique aspect where the player can increase maximum health and card points using the experience point system. It can be achieved by winning cards from battles known as map cards. These map cards determine the difficulty level of the opponents. The three type of map cards are according to the color: Red map card, Blue map card, and Green map card. There is a distinction in the use of the cards as using a red map card decides the level and the number of opponents. Green map card provides the player with power at the deck. In the end Blue map card provides the player with the freedom to choose between saving point or treasure chest.

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories continues from the point where the 1st version of the game ended. The main character being Sora and his friends includes Jimmy cricket, Donald, and Goofy. Many of the opponents have been directly taken from the first sequel of the game. The game can be played in two modes. The first mode features the game as Sora the main character and after the game is completed once, and then Riku can also be used using Rebirth mode. The game has been made for PS2 (Playstation 2) from Sony. The unique feature of card based battle has received a mixed response but in all the game has received positive response from its users as well as critics.
