Sony unveils 240Hz LCD TV

Posted by admin | Filed under: Sony

Sony has has allways been at the forefront of TV technology. Today the company went even further by introducing the first ever 240Hz LCD TV and the world’s thinnest TV.

Hold your breath until December (in the US), because that’s when Sony’s 240Hz LCD TVs will be available to the public. Currently LCD TVs are topping out at 120Hz for consumers, and that’s already a significant improvement in speed over the standard 50-60Hz of normal (for want of a better term) LCD TVs.

The new 240Hz technology promises to provide the smoothest, most lifelike and finest movement ever from an LCD TV and will be great for Playstation 3 gamers playing the latest games. We’re still a little concerned about 240Hz with movies though. As it is 120Hz makes TV and movies look a little crazy.

The 240Hz technology will be available in the KDL-46W1 and KDL-40W1 that boasts full-HD, 3,000:1 contrast ratio, BRAVIA Engine 2 and 24p support.

Installing linux on your Ps3

Posted by admin | Filed under: PS3

A tutorial from the guys over PSHeads.co.uk show you how to install linux on your PS3 console, here is an overview on that article if you where wondering how to install linux on your PS3. This is for the installation of Yellow Dog Linux , which is the PS3 ’s main alternative to their System Software OS. These Instruction refer to the latest version of YDL, v6.0, but this tutorial should work with any other Linux form, such as Fedora or redhat.

What you will need:

  • A Sony Playstation 3 console connected to a HDTV or a monitor via HDMI Cable;
  • A Sony Playstation 3 controller connected to your console;
  • A USB Keyboard and Mouse connected to your console;
  • The latest version of System Software. Make sure you check for any updates.

Here’s what you need for the Installation:

  • A Sony PlayStation 3
  • A Blank DVD
  • A Blank CD
  • A USB Stick
  • A USB Keyboard and Mouse (mentioned before)

If you allready have a Ps3 console then everything else should be pretty easy to get hold of, if your the kind of person who is considering installing a hardcore OS onto your gaming system, you’ve probably already got a USB Keyboard and Mouse, or you may just have an old one lying around. You can get a USB stick pretty easy these days or you could just borrow one. If your going to buy one make sure you get a really decent one with lots of memory e.g 2GB+. Blank CDs are really easy to get hold of they cost pennys.

Now, down to the hard core hacking.

Step 1

To start with its pretty important that you, BACK UP ALL YOUR STORED DATA . The main thing is to back up save files, and other files, such as music, are optional. To back up, go to

‘Settings’ > ‘System Settings’ > ‘Format Utility’ > ‘Format Hard Disk’ > ‘Yes’

Then select ‘Quick Format’ and push the (X) Button. Your PS3 will back itself up and Reboot now.

Step 2

OK. Now to the actual Download/Installation Process. Now you need to Download YDL V6.0 from TerraSoft , and burn it onto your Blank DVD. This will take a pretty long time, so while you are waiting do the next step.

Step 3

Download the PS3 Linux Add-On CD from the Linux website: Download it here , and burn this onto your Blank CD.

Step 4

Now, we start the Installation. Pop in the DVD you made earlier, now you are giving up control of your PS3 to YDL for a few minutes. However, you will still be in control to initiate the control transfer. Go to

‘Settings’ > ‘System Settings’ > ‘Install other OS’

Now you should hear your PS3 whirring away, scanning the DVD for the ‘bootloader’, which will start the installation process.

Step 5

Confirm discovery of

‘/ps3/otheros/otheros.bld’

and press (X) to begin installation. Lets roll.

Step 6

Select ‘Other OS’ by going to

‘Settings’ > ‘System Settings’ > ‘Default System’ > ‘Other OS’

when prompted, select ‘Yes’.

Installation

Step 1

Now you will see the bootloader screen: ‘kboot’ . Before the bootloader times-out, select the maximum capability of your HDTV or Monitor .

If you don’t know your screen resolution, just select ‘install_ps3_720p’ .

Step 2

Enter the YDL Installer called Anaconda and proceed.

Step 3

Simply follow the on screen instructions. If this is your first time installing YDL, you will get a message saying:

‘The partition table on this device, ps3da was unreadable…’

Don’t worry, just select ‘Yes’ and continue.

Step 4

Now, select ‘Automatic Partitioning’ .

Step 5

You will now be faced by 3 options which will be:

Remove all Linux Partitions

Remove all Partitions

Keep all Partitions and use existing free space

If this is your first time installing Linux on your PS3, select ‘Keep all Partitions and use existing free space’ . This will not harm your System Software OS or your game data.

If you have previously installed Linux on your PS3, you have a choice. The first option deletes all your Linux files and the actual OS, replacing it with YDL. The second option deletes all game data as well as the System Software OS. The last option means you will have 2 versions of Linux. Take your pick.

This bundle actually includes two Ps3 controllers so you can race your friends on GT5. But the second bundle? Won’t exactly have you begging “oh man, when does my closest game store get this?”. Due for release on October 29, it’ll include an 80GB PS3, one DualShock and…and…

wait for it…a copy of Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis on Blu-Ray. Which we’re guessing is just for the French-speaking market.

Resident Evil 5 released Friday March 13

Posted by admin | Filed under: PS3

The new resident evil game for the Sony PS3 console is coming for you on Friday the 13th 2009! The game will be called Resident evil 5 and will be available on the Playstation 3 console. The biohazard threat has not ended: Just when you thought it had, a new zombie like infected creature comes to plague racoon city once more.

Capcom will have players fearing the daylight as much as they have feared nightfall in previous games.

Promising to revolutionise the resident evil series by delivering an unbelievable level of detail, realism and control,Resident Evil 5 is certain to bring new fans to the series. New technology developed specifically for the game, as well as incredible changes to both the gameplay and world of Resident Evil will make this a must-have game for gamers on the PS3 console across the globe

Features

  • Chris Redfield, protagonist of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, returns

  • Chris is joined by new character Sheva Alomar, an African special agent tasked with investigating the epidemic

  • 2 player Co-Op online gameplay means that players are not alone in their fight against the horror lurking around every corner

  • Simultaneous Pan Western release date for both PLAYSTATION3 and Xbox360 on March 13th, 2009

  • New enemies bring new challenges: speed and intelligence make adversaries as dangerous singly as they are in groups.

  • An arsenal of weapons at the player’s command to keep the evil at bay, including knives, pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles and more.

  • Lighting effects provide a new level of suspense in both harsh light and deepest shadow

  • True High-Definition gaming on multiple game platforms, using an advanced version of Capcom’s proprietary game engine, MT Framework, which powered the Current-Generation, million-plus hit titles Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet and Dead Rising.

The game which is being released on Friday the 13th is superstitiously considered a day of bad luck so hopefully all will go well for Capcom the publishers of Resident evil 5.

Produced by series veteran Jun Takeuchi, this next-generation follow-up to the terrifying series introduces the theme of escape as its core survival instinct. As Chris Redfield (former S.T.A.R.S. member and now part of the BSAA unit), your life is in danger as you strive to complete your most dangerous mission yet in a sweltering desert colony where a new breed of evil has been unleashed. Swarms of marauding evil beings will charge at you when your pulse is racing at a heart-shattering pace. Environments will play a bigger factor than ever here, using the power of next-gen systems to create a world where terror might lurk in any alcove or shadow. Powerful lighting effects overwhelm the player with mirage movement and blinding brilliance, and even in the light of day, there is no safe haven in this Resident Evil.

Crysis possibly coming to Ps3 in 2009

Posted by admin | Filed under: PS3

Its possible that Crytek is planning to release Crysis bundled with the new expansion Warhead on the Xbox 360 in late 2008/early 2009, followed by a PlayStation 3 version in early 2009.

Apparently Crytek is focusing on each system’s threading core, and that the team is taking their time with the PS3 version, learning to utilize the Cell processor as effectively as possible in order to push higher quality textures, improved A.I., and more.

It’s been long rumored that Crysis will be making an appearance on home consoles, some people are even suggesting that the game will feature 50 per cent worth of new content (Warhead expansion), dubbing it “Crysis 1.5.”

Stay tuned for more updates as they become available to us.
